Venus Figurines

We also offer casts of exact-size replicas of two of the most famous Upper Paleolithic female “Venus” figurines. These female statuettes are replicas of specimens found by a private collector at the Grimaldi Caves, Northwestern Italy, in the 1890's.  They are thought to be associated with the Italian Epigravettian industry, and to date to between 18,000 and 16,000 BC.  They were among the first Upper Paleolithic human images recognized by archaeologists, and have been interpreted in many ways, but are most likely amulets related to pregnancy and/or childbirth ritual.  Please note that like the originals, these are small, ranging between 47 mm (c. 2 inches) and 59 mm (c. 2.5 inches) in length.  Prices listed below are for casts in epoxy resin.  It is also possible for us to carve replicas of these figurines in a stone type (chlorite) very similar to that of the originals.  These carvings are suitable for museum displays. Photographs on this page are of stone replicas. The casts will be painted in the colors to match the real specimens. Please e-mail us for price and availability.
